Another great Bert Stern image….

…Robert Sobieszek, the curator of what is now the International Museum of Photography and Film at the George Eastman House, called Mr. Stern’s martini photograph “the most influential break with traditional advertising photography” of its time.

Bert Stern – RIP – Passed away yesterday at the age of 83

Bert Stern was one of the greats. His career was long and varied and he took some of the most iconic advertising and editorial images of our times particularily his most famous work with the late Marilyn Monroe including her last sitting for VOGUE at the Bel Air Hotel six weeks before her death. There was a documnetary film on his life and work released in the last year called Bert Stern – Original Madman which is supposed to be very good. I sadly missed it in the theaters but a friend of mine loved it and I will try to track it down for sure now – see the link for the film here

And a great tribute on Paris VOGUE site here

Frank Ockenfels 3 Breaking Bad is coming back in August!!!

Helmut Newton – Getting Excited!

We are very excited about the opening of the exhibition, White Women • Sleepless Nights • Big Nudes this weekend at The Annenberg Space for Photography. The exhibition was originally organized by Manfred Heiting for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Los Angeles and the Chateau Marmont were Helmut and June Newton’s long time winter residence. I am looking forward to seeing which images are used as these are three of Helmut’s most important books and there are so many amazing images! The exhibition is on June 29th to September 8th. It also features some new documentary films on Helmut and some large scale prints. It will also be interesting to see how the exhibition is installed in that space. Please see more information at the Museum’s website here
