Frank Ockenfels MAD MEN for your Emmy Consideration Campaign

Spencer Lowell in DWELL Magazine June issue

A story about a renovated and restored home in Crestwood Hills, in Brentwood, Los Angeles. From the story:

” Occupying some 800 acres above Sunset Blvd. in Brentwood, Crestwood Hills is indeed a rarity. The Mutual Housing Association which four musicians with a dream of cooperative living founded in 1946 – enlisted architects A. Quincey Jones and Whitney R. Smith to develop a novel yet affordable housing option for the middle class Angelenos. ”

I have been on a couple of architectural house tours up there and it is indeed a wonderfully preserved neighborhood. Unfortunately a lot of the original homes were lost in the 1961 Bel Air fire and it is a funny antidote that the Association originally hired John Lautner to design the plans for the community and the houses but were not happy with his idea and so moved on to Jones and Smith!

Last Week’s Meeting with Standard Time LA // Guest Blogger Alert!

We are back from a fantastic Memorial Day Weekend!

Last week, we had the pleasure of sitting down with the ladies of Standard Time LA, and advertising agency just around the corner from us, we are practically neighbors!

We were so interested in hearing all about what this young agency has been up to, from national advertising campaigns to marketing for local Los Angeles non-profits – all so exciting! When looking up the agency, we came across this on their website and came to find that the agency really lived up to this description and we are LOVING IT…

“There’s no set road map for creative work. What we do know is a great idea can come from anywhere or anyone. It doesn’t take a corporate ladder, office beer taps, or big egos to inspire a company. It comes from a place where every idea could be right until it’s proven wrong.”

Thank you ladies!

Happy Memorial Day Everyone!!

Frank Ockenfels 3 / Los Angeles Magazine / The Hugo Problem

A very strange story indeed:

He was L.A.’s most prominent male feminist, a professor of gender studies who used his online presence to burnish his reputation. Then Hugo Schwyzer’s bad behavior—sex with students, substance abuse, and a chilling act of violence—came to light, and Twitter users around the world took him down

Thank you New York!

Thanks to all the people who met with me last week while I was in the Big Apple. It was a great and rewarding trip. I saw many new clients as well as old – not old – existing clients and old – not old – long term friends!

Thanks to all who made time and for looking at the work and making what I do a pleasure. When you view our artists work and appreciate it and acknowledge it that makes a difference to us and the photographers. It is so important to get direct feedback.

And of course I had a blast with my Instagram feed – here is a small sampling of my shots of the city that makes me feel alive and connected.

Behance Portfolio Review // Guest Blogger Alert

Last week, I was honored to be included as one of the reviewers at the Behance Portfolio Review at a fantastic space, the HUB here in Los Angeles.

It was so great, as it always is, to sit amongst peers who share the same passion for the art of photography – their love for what they do inspires me and it’s my hope that I can do the same for them and give some advice along the way if I can.

A big shout to Mathieu Young and John BuBois for putting it all together, it was a great event – we had some fantastic discussions and I look very forward to attending many more.

Thank you to everyone who attended, thank you Mathieu and John for making things like this happen, and thank you to my fellow reviewers who took the time to come out – you make this career what it is for me… a joy.

Stay Cool with Perry Ogden // Guest Blogger Alert

It’s finally Friday, and if you are in Los Angeles or following the news here – you’ll know this week has been an absolute SCORCHER!

And what better way to fend off the heat then to stick with your air conditioner and be inspired. I’m very happy staying cool and checking out my favorite blogs today, one of which happens to be Perry Ogden’s.

Whether it’s a personal image, a snapshot from set or a breathtaking landscape, I always find myself inspired (and wanting to book some flights) when roaming around Perry’s blog.

The image above is a gorgeous snapshot of Harmony Boucher, lead singer for the Vuvuvultures from a recent story he shot in London for D Magazine.

Take a look, stay cool and be inspired….
