Frank Ockenfels 3 and Alexander Hamilton

You don’t have to be in New York to see Hamilton! Did you know that Hamilton is now playing in both San Francisco and Los Angeles?

People are saying the Los Angeles cast, performing at the Pantages in Hollywood, is just as good (if not better) than the original New York cast.

Frank was lucky enough to get up close and personal with Lin-Manuel Miranda and the rest of the cast when shooting for the book Hamilton – The Revolution.

Make sure you get out there and catch this show while it’s still around, no matter where you live!

Check out more of Frank’s work on his website.

Spencer Lowell captures the beauty of The Theatre at The Ace Hotel

Perry Ogden Films Lisa Dwan for The Old Vic production of No’s Knife

Which is a selection of Samuel Beckett’s Texts For Nothing, conceived and performed by Lisa Dwan.

‘Where would I go, if I could go, who would I be, if I could be, what would I say, if I had a voice, who says this, saying it’s me?’

A lone figure. A voice searching in the dark for who it is and why it speaks. Lisa Dwan offers a searing personal and political vision of his most original work: Texts for Nothing.

Filled with piercing insight, rage, wit and humour, No’s Knife is an extraordinary journey into the heart of Beckett, unlocking his contemporary relevance to gender, identity and the human condition. It is an invitation to look at ourselves, and to ask who, or whom, am I?

The Old Vic presents the world premiere of No’s Knife and directed by Joe Murphy.

Frank Ockenfels 3 ONCE A Musical – One more time in Los Angeles

It has been nice to see the advertising that Frank did originally for the Broadway production ( and he shot the London cast for the advertising there too ) up all over Los Angeles for ONCE a Musical at The Pantages Theater playing now and until August 10th.

Often when you see something like a film ONCE ( released in 2006 ) and love it when it then gets changed into a play or a musical, much like when a beloved book is made into a film you are disappointed. Not with this one. I saw it in NY and then recently saw it here and it really is such an engaging musical and such an interesting staging no wonder it won the TONY for best musical in 2012.

It has now been staged in six countries and is on tour with the LA cast here in the States and more information on tickets here in LA or elsewhere can be found on the website here

And for fun check out this video of Frank shooting the original NY cast that captures the spirit of the play and the music here

Sting’s New Album – “The Last Ship” by Frank Ockenfels 3

It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since Sting put out an album, how time flies! But he’s back now with not only a new album (featured here – cover by Frank Ockenfels), but he is also debuting this year on Broadway, a musical also titled “The Last Ship”.

The musical is based on Sting’s experiences of living near a shipyard in Newcastle and the demise of Britain’s shipbuilding industry. The musical is what inspired the new album, and we are so excited for both! The new album will be released this fall on September 23rd.

You can read more about the album and the broadway musical here

The Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis

I was visiting advertising agencies in Minneapolis last week and had time to visit the Guthrie Theater. Designed by the architect Jean Nouvel and opened in 2006 it is a fantastic building with amazing spaces and light. Next time I visit I want to see one of their theater productions but the building is well worth a visit.

Mannix Flynn in NYC

I met Mannix Flynn through Perry Ogden in Dublin many years ago.  Mannix is a man of many talents and now in New York one of his one man theater pieces is running at a theater in the Village.  Presented by Liam Neeson and Gabriel Byrne and directed by Gabriel, I would highly recommend that you try to see this.  Any chance to see him perform is a must if you love theater and have any interest in Ireland – it is the semi autobiographical story of a child growing up in rural Ireland and the widespread child abuse by members of the Roman Catholic Church.   James X is a book that Perry just gave me to read and I wish I was in NYC and could see this.
